Overview of KEMCO and NREC
KEMCO (Korea Energy Management Corporation)
Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO) is a government agency responsible for the implementation of energy conservation policies and energy efficiency improvement measures as well as climate change mitigation activities. It was established in 1980 by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy under the “"Rational Energy Utilization Act.” Its primary function is nationwide energy management by providing services that vary from technical and financial support to administrative services, thereby pursuing the ultimate goal of building an environment-friendly socio-economic structure.

Major Activities of KEMCO

  1. Energy management in the sectors of energy-intensive industry and buildings through energy audits, inspections and follow-up measures
  2. Efficiency and safety management of industrial equipment, plus home and office appliances through efficiency standards setting and labeling program
  3. Demand-side management(DSM)
  4. Financial assistance toward energy conservation and efficiency improvement projects, and energy service companies (ESCOs)

NREC (New Renewable Energy Center)
New and Renewable Energy Center(NREC) was established as the affiliate of KEMCO to support and promote new and renewable energy. It has supported and has carried out government’'s policies to promote NRE deployment. The 2030 target, providing 11% of NRE in our total primary energy supply(TPES), could be achieved through following activities.
