A Message from the Director
ByungMoon Kim

With rapidly changing global and domestic business environment such as the recent frequent fluctuation of petroleum prices and the costly measures for responding to UN framework convention on climate change, the importance of new and renewable energy(NRE) is becoming heightened.

New and renewable energy is not only important for tackling issues such as the exploitation of fossil and environmental deterioration, but also becoming an increasingly significant economic factor worldwide. Under such circumstances, advanced countries are making various efforts in undertaking aggressive R&D investments and deployment policies in this sector.

Despite the fact that Korea has started to focus on new and renewable energy industry later than other advanced countries, it is expected that the industry would be a national growth engine in the near future as the Korean government has made all-out efforts to support NRE technology development and deployment in order to build an industrial infrastructure.

New and Renewable Energy Center(NREC) performs various activities for its deployment such as performance evaluation & certification, Building, home, regional, depbyment programs, RPS, NRE mandatory use for public buildings and test bed as well as for policy development including public relations & education and international cooperation.

As a dedicated organization for implementing the government policies, NREC is fully committed to enhance industrial competitiveness in new and renewable energy sector in the pursuit of accomplishing the national objective.

Thank you.

ByungMoon Kim Director New and Renewable Energy Center
