What is Average Fuel Efficiency Program?
Average Fuel Efficiency Program requires vehicle manufacturers to comply with the fuel efficiency standard which is set by the Korean government. AFE values are obtained by dividing the sum of vehicles' fuel efficiency to sales volume. If the manufacturers don't meet the AFE standard, the Korean government can issue an enforcement notice to the manufacturers to improve their fuel efficiency. The AFE standard is as below.
<AFE standard>
Year Below 1,600cc Above 1,600cc
Until 2011 12.4 km/l 9.6 km/l
2011~2015 17 km/l, 140g/km(CO2)

Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(MOTIE) and KEMCO established new criteria for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. And we plan to phase in the new standard of fuel efficiency (17km/l), CO2 emissions (140g/km) from 2012 to 2015.
